Our School Readiness Program in Sydney is designed to give your child exactly that. We've been helping families prepare for this transition for over 16 years, and we know what makes the difference between a child who struggles to settle in and one who thrives from day one.
Under Sarah Benjamin leadership since 2022, we've refined our approach to focus on what really matters: building independence, social skills, and a genuine love of learning. We don't just teach children to sit still and follow instructions. We help them become confident, capable learners who can't wait to start school.
How We Prepare Your Child For School
School readiness isn't just about knowing letters and numbers. It's about feeling comfortable in a classroom, making friends, handling emotions, and being able to do things independently. We focus on all of it.
1. Social Skills and Friendship Building
The school is full of other children. Your child needs to know how to navigate friendships, work in groups, and handle the small conflicts that come up every day.
Learning to Share and Take Turns: We create plenty of opportunities for children to practice waiting, sharing materials, and understanding that everyone gets a turn. These moments happen naturally during play, and we're there to guide them through it.
Listening and Following Group Instructions: In school, teachers give instructions to the whole class. We practice mat time, group activities, and listening games so your child knows how to tune in when it matters.
2. Independence and Self-Care Skills
Teachers can't tie everyone's shoes or open every lunch box. Children who can manage their own basic needs feel more confident and capable at school.
Managing Personal Belongings: We teach children to look after their bags, hang up their jackets, and keep track of their water bottles. These small routines build responsibility.
Opening Lunch Containers: We practice opening different types of containers, using utensils properly, and cleaning up after meals. It's one less thing for them to worry about on busy school days.
3. Early Literacy and Numeracy
Yes, letters and numbers matter. But the goal isn't to turn your child into a reading expert before kindergarten. It's about building interest, confidence, and foundational skills.
Letter Recognition and Phonics: We introduce letters through songs, stories, and games. Children learn to recognize their name, identify common letters, and start connecting sounds to letters.
Number Sense and Counting: Through everyday activities, we help children understand what numbers mean. Counting toys, comparing amounts, recognizing written numbers, and understanding more and less.
4. Emotional Regulation and Resilience
School can be overwhelming. Children who can manage their emotions, bounce back from disappointment, and ask for help when they need it adjust much more easily.
Naming and Understanding Feelings: We help children build an emotional vocabulary. When they can say "I'm feeling frustrated" or "I'm worried," they can communicate their needs instead of acting out.
Problem-Solving Skills: We encourage children to try solving problems before asking for help. "What could you do?" or "How else could that work?" These questions build resilience and creative thinking.
